Primary Filter Replacement — Easy Step-by-Step Guide

The primary filter is a key part of your AC system. It catches big particles like dust and bacteria, keeping the air clean. But over time, it gets clogged with dirt and doesn’t work as well. That’s why you need to replace it regularly. Here’s a simple guide to doing it right.

Step 1: Get Ready

Grab what you’ll need: a new filter, gloves, a mask, a broom, and a vacuum. Always turn off the AC power first—safety first!

Step 2: Take Out the Old Filter

Find the filter (usually near the air intake). Give it a quick clean with a broom or vacuum so dust doesn’t spread. Then take it out following how it’s held in place.

Step 3: Put in the New Filter

Take the new filter out of the packaging and install it the right way. Check the arrows or markings—if it’s backwards, it won’t filter well.

Step 4: Clean Inside the AC

After the new filter is in, use a broom or vacuum to clean the inside of the AC. You can also disinfect it for fresher air.

Quick Tips

  • Wear gloves and a mask to avoid breathing in dust.
  • Replace every 3 months—more often if it’s very dusty.
  • Make sure the filter fits your AC model.
  • Always turn the power off before starting.
  • If something doesn’t sound or feel right after replacement, call a pro.
Replacing your primary filter is simple, but doing it the right way keeps your AC running well and your air clean.
